About Darwin
Located in Hanoi, Vietnam, Darwin is a vibrant hub for hands-on innovation in Vietnam. the space brings together makers, students, and technology enthusiasts in a fully equipped fabrication and prototyping environment. From 3D printing and electronics to robotics and software development, the lab supports projects at every stage — from initial concept to working prototype. Weekly open maker nights, technical workshops, and collaborative sprints make it easy for anyone in Hanoi to get started, regardless of background or experience level. Darwin is committed to growing the region's STEM ecosystem by connecting creative individuals with the resources and community they need to bring bold ideas to life.
Description
1. Nature & Biomimicry: Inspired by Charles Darwin, we look to nature as a mentor. Our "Nature's Genius" program guides makers to study biological strategies—from the lotus effect for hydrophobic materials to termite mound structures for passive cooling—and replicate them using 3D printing and CNC technology. We emphasize sustainable design thinking and bio-compatible materials.
2. Vietnamese Culture: We integrate rich local heritage into STEM. Students use laser cutting and precision milling to reimagine traditional crafts, such as redesigning the conical hat (Nón Lá) structures or creating smart traditional lanterns, preserving culture through modern engineering.
3. Global Citizenship: We connect local students to the world through international programs like GLOBE.gov, NASA Space Apps, and global robotics competitions. Environmental Action is at our heart. Darwin Fablab serves as a monitoring station and solutions incubator. We equip students to build low-cost environmental sensors (air/water quality), engage in citizen science biodiversity tracking, and develop prototypes for climate adaptation. We envision a future where technology serves nature.
